The LASER is a single sail mono-hull boat which is sailed by one person (or 2 kids). It is an Olympic class boat and is very popular around the world. See the webpage for the International Laser Class Association for further information on this great small boat.
The Ras Al Hamra Boat Club owns 18 Club Lasers (10 in full XD Racing condition, 8 standard boats for day to day use), 2 Laser Bahias and 2 RS Quests (both double hander family boats), which are made available to club members (see the "RULES FOR USING CLUB LASERS"). We have four Radial rigs and four 4.7 rigs that can be used by the lighter sailors. To sail a Laser (private or club) from the RAH beach a helm ticket is required.
For anyone going out in a Laser (club or private): note and follow the Sailing Competencies Rules and Laser Checklist.
Laser Courses
We offer 2 types of courses; one for beginners (using the Laser Bahias and RS Quests), and the second to improve your sailing or racing skills.
The novice course covers rigging, safety on land and water, sailing jargon, care for and handling of equipment, dry practice, and of course the real thing – out on the water. Conditions for learning at RAHRC are almost ideal with warm and clear waters.
Regular Laser races are being organised by:
RAHBC Monthly Laser Race
Currently Laser races are organised on an ad-hoc basis
The races are for FUN. Even if you are new to sailing: please join us. Do not be afraid if you do not know the rules (who does anyway!). You will learn by doing!
Oman Laser Association (OLA)
The Oman Laser Association is the formal national body for Laser sailing in Oman. Many members are from RAHBC but luckily we have numerous "non-PDO ers". OLA organises as a minimum the Oman National Laser Championships once a year. Various other races are organised at places like Al Sawadi Beach Resort, RAHBC, Aviation Beach Club, CAYC, The Marina, etc.
For details on joining this organisation please contact: Roel Berendsen mailto:[email protected].
