The 4 Points race was a great event, with the UAE team transporting a Falcon F16, 2 Nacra Infusion F18s, and a Nacra F16, 4 and a half hours to Oman (plus border hold ups and packing time!). Friday's lack of wind allowed batteries to be recharged after some serious socializing. Friday was spent on the beautiful PDO beach sharing cross border sailing stories, plans to attend International events, and promises to get together more frequently. Later, a great barbecue welcomed new and past sailors, creating a great crowd, lots of delicious food, live music, and later some African beats, long into the evening.
Saturday produced a light breeze and after an interesting on the water start and leg to the windward buoy, with a few place changes, a downwind leg to the fairway buoy made for interesting tactics as boats chose to sailing in all different directions and at various angles to the wind, trying to suss the currents and find the breeze. Upwind to Fahal Island as the wind increased, decreased and oscillated, the Hobies were catching the F16s/F18s, ensuring everyone's concentration! The mysterious Fahal island sucked a few of us in to its cliffs as the wind disappeared and the fleet closed !! The leg home from the island was a fun beat, then broad reach home to a great welcome from the OOD. Thanks to organizer Dave Clark, OOD Stephen Martin and photographer, Augustine. So far, a prize goes to the No. 1 fun boat (Mike and Manuel) results to follow..... |
