Rules for taking out a sailing boat (Private or Club, including Windsurfers)
- Any skipper that goes out on a sailing boat MUST be in possession of a helms-ticket valid for the type of boat she/he is using. Crews don't require a ticket. The skipper is responsible for the crew.
- Ensure you are fit to sail under current weather conditions, and follow the black ball instructions (see below).
- Sign in the log book (for all boats) and pay your fee at CSP (for Club boats). Where the helm is under the age of 16, entry must be made by the child's parent or supervisor, who should be a full member of RAHRC.
- All children under the age of 16 must be under parental supervision, e.g. parent/guardian on the beach or on the water in an other sailing boat, SUP or kayak.
- A buoyancy aid (lifejacket) IS MANDATORY at all times for all on the boat (this specifically also applies to windsurfers, SUPs and kayaks).
- You can sail anywhere in-sight of CSP, staying with 2km from CSP (Visual Sailing Area, see map below).
- Stay well clear of Mina Al Fahal oil loading operations! This is a Restricted Area where sailing is not allowed.
- If you want to sail outside the Visual Sailing Area, including around the island, you have to take a mobile phone in a waterproof case, and leave your number and sailing plan with CSP.
- The Extended Sailing Area is limited to 3km from the main land and 500m from Fahal Island, limited to the east by the Restricted Area and to the west by the Hyatt Hotel.
- For sailing trips beyond above boundaries a safety plan has to be approved by the RAHSC Committee in advance.
- Sailboats need to be back in the Visual Sailing Area 1.5 hours before sunset and back on the beach 30 minutes before sunset.
- Upon return, sign-out the log book at CSP and write down any damage/repairs to the boat on the white board in the Sailing Room (key at CSP) and/or send a WhatsApp to the relevant Fleet Captain.
- Thoroughly clean the boat, sails and trailer with fresh water. Hang the sails to dry and store, gently folded, within 24 hrs. Return everything where you found it!
