Last weekend, 10 Hobies and 2 F16s sailed in 14 knots of breeze from the NW to the Shangri-La. It only took the fastest boat 1 hour 30 mins. with some exciting moments on the way including capsizes and slipping off the stern! Of course, it is safe fun and everyone was following the buddy system, had safety boat cover and equipment too. It was an excellent sail down which passed many sites such as the Bustan, none of which we noticed as we were all too busy looking at was the tell tails! (Well maybe)
On arrival, some continued later that day, exploring the sailing waters around the Shangri-La. Others opted for some luxury on the lazy river before dinner and awarding Aeolus the team racing trophy. Congratulations! It was a lovely evening with a mixture of sailors and their families of all ages and nationalities from all the teams.
The next day, 3 races were run off the S-La beach - 2 races round buoys and the third long distance, round the island. The conditions were shifty and sailors had to watch the shifts, gusts round the many headlands and play the current. The wind picked up later on and it was single wiring conditions towards the end of the day.
What a fabulous weekend with great wind. Next weekend let's do it all again.
