Great wasn't it? Thanks to the OOD, beach master, committee, sub-committee, supporters and all the participants! Photos and write up to follow after the photo competition. A special Birthday wish goes out to Stephen Martin too - HAPPY ??TH BIRTHDAY!!
There are 2 new teams joining the Team races, Kamikaze 1 and 2. Therefore we reshuffled the boat allocation a bit to accommodate the new teams. Please click here to view the list.
Don't forget Friday 8th January is the next team race.
Please note most of the Hobies have been demasted and rigged up again after some repairs have been done on the hulls and rudders. On Friday could all teams come a bit earlier to help double check the boats before the race.
Topper Sailors and parents,
New course starts on saturday 24th October. Course lasts 6 or 7 weeks depending on conditions and skill of class, Each week we cover different aspects of sailing, so it is important to be able to make all lessons. Below is class list. There is nominal charge (RO 10) to cover course material and prizes, to be paid by bar chitty to account.
Remember, life jacket if you have one, sun screen, hats, etc. Parents are welcome to sit in on the class and learn some basics if not already experienced. A parent or guardian must be available at the end of the sesion (around 12.30) to help with washing and putting away the boats.
Let's go sailing
Fred and the Topper team
Thanks Rob N. for the photo below of the Hobie Course over the last 2 weekends. It's great to see the view with Hobies in it. You can even see the Persian Shearwater!! (- but not the Whale Shark.) Excellent group of people, great fun and amazing sailing, especially this weekend with up to 15 knots! Thanks to Dave and all the support team (official and unofficial) on the beach and on the water. Our waterproof camera is defunct, has anyone got a GoPro ? More pictures to follow, we hope. The next training day will be as above. See you then!
This team racing calendar below is also in the team racing section of the website along with other team racing info, e.g. the SSIs, course, results, etc. However, as we have some new Hobie sailors at the club after the recent conversion course, I thought I would draw attention to the dates in the table, so that you can all come down, join a team, and see what happens!
As discussed on the course, the next team race is 6th November. The regular sailors are a friendly bunch and will of course be there to talk to you about the racing and welcome you onto one of the 8 registered teams.
Or help the Officer of the Day (OOD) on the rib for a great view
Or start your own team! (minimum of 4 sailors)
Current team sailors - there are some great helms and crews from last weekend's course (16 new names on the list) who were handling 15 knot gusts very well indeed. Some are experienced helms, others will finish off their ticket soon, and a afew would like to start out as fast learning (and fast!) crew. Everyone can also see that there are also some maintenance duties to ensure safe sailing and boat longevity. See you on team race day, if not next weekend at the Monthly Mug.
Congratulations to Brad Holliday on 'Fenn' and Dick Nero was so close! According to the Commodore, there was some impressive paddling. Also, well done to everyone for taking part. Thanks of course to the organisers for making it a great event and the supporters too. Paul Sanders would like to extend his thanks to Chris, Stephen, Craig and Kath for their help, cheering and photography skills. We’re all looking forward to seeing the photos.

First race: Friday 2nd October
See you on the water
Last Friday the sailing section organised the first maintenance day of this season. Thanks for all the support from the sailors to get our hobies up to speed again.
We would also like to welcome Hugh Thomson as the maintenance guy.
May we remind all sailor not only to report damage, but also to try to fix minor issues immediately.
Dave has organised more tool boxes and tools. Lets try to keep them in the right place and ensure they don't grow legs.
